Wood Group’s Rig Saver™ air shutoff valve achieves ATEX compliance
HOUSTON, October 20, 2009 — Wood Group Pressure Control has achieved ATEX compliance of its Rig Saver diesel engine air intake shutoff valve under Directive 94/9/EC, the European Union Enterprise and Industry quality assurance standard for equipment used in hazardous zones. ATEX compliance enables integration of the Rig Saver valve into diesel engine products intended for international trade where the directive is compulsory.
Rig Saver air shutoff valves ensure safe operation of diesel engines in areas where combustible gases and vapors create potentially hazardous conditions. They positively stop air flow to the cylinders, shutting down the engines, thus preventing uncontrolled acceleration and potential resultant catastrophic damage.
“Using Rig Saver shutoff valves on ATEX-compliant engines will enable diesel engine manufacturers to conduct barrier-free trade across the EU, while providing their customers with a robust, field-proven safety mechanism,” stated Scott Bender, president of Wood Group Pressure Control. “Currently 100,000 Rig Saver diesel engine air shutoff valves are in use worldwide, safeguarding both equipment and personnel.”
The Rig Saver shutoff valve is manufactured by Wood Group Pressure Control Canada and is available in bore sizes from 2 inches to 14 inches. The Rig Saver air shutoff valve is approved under ATEX Category II, Ex II 3G c T3 (200°C, industrial applications). Additional information is available at www.wgpc.biz/rigsaver.
