The Ugandan Cabinet has approved the signing of Production Sharing Agreements (PSAs) and the issuance of an Exploration license to the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) for the Kasuruban oil block located in the Albertine Graben.
The Kasuruban Block covers an area of nearly 1,300 sq km over the prospective Albertine Basin. UNOC is expected to secure joint venture partners for this license.
Another license was issued to a subsidiary of Australia’s DGR Global, DGR Energy Turaco Uganda Limited for the Turaco Block, which covers over 635 km, also in the Albertine Basin.
Both deals for an initial two-year exploration period, according to a statement issued by the Minister of State for ICT & National Guidance, Kabbyanga Godfrey.
In related news, in late December it was announced that the final investment decision for the $4.5 billion East Africa Energy Security and Transition Investment Project would take place in 2023.
