Turkish Petroleum (TPAO) announced it has made a discovery of one billion barrels of oil with the drilling of the Sehit Aybuke Yalcin-1 well. This discovery is Turkey’s largest onshore find.
Located in the south-east province of Sirnak, near the borders of both the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and Syria, the well was drilled to a depth of over 2,770 meters, and encountered an approximate 162-meter light oil-bearing reservoir.
In a statement, Melih Han Bilgin, TPAO’s Chairman and CEO, said that the company will drill back-to-back appraisal wells and conduct will tests to construct the full-field development plan through the end of 2023. He added that test production from Sehit Aybuke Yalcin had already started at the end of April and the production target is set to 100K bpd “boosting oil production in Turkey by two fold,” and adding “additional exploration wells are to be spudded in Cubi Gabar area in H2 2023.”
A feed agreement has already been signed for a pipeline.
TPAO holds a 100% stake in the project.
