Following a visit by Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab and Rachid Hachichi, the Chairman and CEO of Sonatrach, to the Republic of Niger to meet with representatives of the Nigerien Petroleum Company (Sonidep SA), it was decided that SIPEX, a subsidiary of Sonatrach, would resume work on the KAFRA block.
The parties agreed on a completion schedule and that monthly monitoring of the progress of the KAFRA project would be set up, through a Joint Monitoring Committee, in order to ensure the effective implementation of the work.
Areas of cooperation between Sonatrach and Sonidep have also been identified, particularly in the area of training and skills development, as well as the prospects for relaunching large-scale projects, such as the TSGP trans-Saharan pipeline project.
