The Sonatrach group is committed to intensifying its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, through several actions including improving energy efficiency and eliminating flaring, according to its CEO, Toufik Hakkar.
“Sonatrach is committed to intensifying its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, through improving energy efficiency, eliminating flaring and venting gases, reducing leakage and launching forestry projects for the absorption of GHGs,” Hakkar said in a message on the occasion of World Environment Day.
He underlined in the same context that Sonatrach “will spare no effort to tackle other environmental problems to protect the biodiversity of the national natural heritage, preserve the quality and availability of the country’s water resources, guarantee air quality. and make efficient use of natural resources.”
To achieve these goals, Sonatrach will adopt a “proactive” approach that values natural resources, contributes to stimulate the circular economy and innovation and focuses on the positive contributions of all national and international stakeholders, Hakkar offered.
While reaffirming the Group’s commitment to work in favor of sustainable and responsible development, he noted that Sonatrach, in its capacity as a corporate citizen, is firmly committed to an approach committed to the preservation and protection of all of the country’s ecosystems.
“Sonatrach’s sincere and multifaceted commitment is thus confirmed in the general declaration of the group’s HSE policy, signed on March 16, 2021, which proclaims that Sonatrach, as a major energy player, aims to rise to international standards and aims for excellence in the preservation and restoration of natural environments and ecosystems,” Hakkar stated. “The well-being of our fellow citizens and the preservation of natural resources are the key words of our approach and constitute our primary concern,” he continued.
