Sonatrach and Brazil’s WEG Sign MoU Aimed at Facility Modernization

Sonatrach and the Brazilian company WEG SA signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two companies.  This cooperation will promote the prospects for exchanging expertise and experience, in terms of improving performance and technological mastery of Sonatrach installations.

 

The establishment of this MoU with WEG SA, one of the largest suppliers of electric motors in the world, is part of the strategy of development and modernization of Sonatrach facilities, by the identification of the best technologies for improving the energy efficiency of Sonatrach facilities and the digitization and maintenance of electrical equipment.

 

Through this collaboration, Sonatrach also aims to implement one of its commitments related to the policy of promoting local content and national integration, namely, “The contribution to the development of national capacities in terms of technological mastery in the businesses of Sonatrach, through collaboration with foreign partners.”

 

Indeed, Sonatrach and WEG SA will carry out the economic evaluation of the construction of a WEG manufacturing and maintenance structure in Algeria and will examine the possibility of setting up a partnership with the Sonatrach training institute, with a view to grant an advanced level of training and certification, as well as the organization of workshops and meetings of specialists to share good practices according to a process of management and capitalization of knowledge, particularly in terms of technological monitoring and updating update of electrical equipment standards.

 

This protocol was signed at the Sonatrach Headquarters by Mohamed Slimani, Vice-President of the Exploration & Production Activity of Sonatrach, and Harry Schmelzer Jr. Chairman and CEO of the WEG SA Group. The signing took place in the presence of Mohamed Arkab, Minister of Energy and Mines, Toufik Hakkar Chairman and CEO of Sonatrach, and His Excellency the Ambassador of Brazil in Algeria, Flavio Marega.
