Sanallah Meets with Unity Govt to Discuss Oil Sector Rehab Priorities

NOC’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, Eng. Mustafa Sanallah, received the First Vice President of the National Unity Government, Mr. Ramadan Ahmed Boujnah, accompanied by Dr. Khaled Al-Mabrouk Abdullah, Minister of Finance, Adviser Dr. Yusef Al-Hamali and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, the challenges and difficulties facing the oil sector were discussed, and the losses incurred by the sector as a result of the instability of the security situation were discussed. Eng. Sanallah stressed that the oil sector needs the necessary support to pay the obligations to service companies and the need to liquidate the budgets required to accelerate the maintenance work on damaged pipelines and tanks as a result of previous wars and repeated closures in oil ports that the oil sector was subjected to.

Other topics of importance included a discussion on developing the fields in the southern regions and how to put them on production as possible in order to benefit the people who are experiencing a fuel crisis. In line with this issue, effective solutions to deliver fuel to people in the south, in addition to a refinery project, and the establishment of a cooking gas extraction unit in the Sharara field in order to provide and meet local needs for gas, were also discussed.

Mr. Ramadan Bou Jinnah, Vice President of the National Unity Government, and Dr. Khaled Al-Mabrouk Abdullah, Minister of Finance, stressed the need to overcome all difficulties in order to support the oil sector, as well as emphasized the importance of the sector in Increasing national income and stimulating the private sector. Addressing these issues, he stated, would contribute to creating job opportunities to reduce the unemployment rate throughout the country.

At the end of the visit, the Vice President of the National Unity Government and the Minister of Finance, accompanied by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, toured the headquarters of the Foundation to see the damage caused by the bombing that targeted the National Oil Corporation building on the tenth of September 2018 and to see the works of rehabilitating the building.
