OPEC Meeting Results in Output Boost Agreement

Friday, April 2, 2021

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and supportive non-OPEC members, collectively termed OPEC+, met on April 1 to discuss the current situation in the oil markets. The participants concluded that a production boost was in order and agreed to a cumulative output boost of more than two million in the coming months.

OPEC+, which includes Russia, the largest non-OPEC producer, will increase output in May and June by 350,000 barrels a day, and in July they will add another 100,000 barrels bringing the increase to 450,000 barrels a day.

Saudi Arabia will add one million barrels per day by July as the country separately had unilateral cuts in place from earlier this year.
