The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Libya’s National Oil Corp., Eng. Mustafa Sanalla, received the adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Libya, Stephanie Williams and the accompanying delegation, at the headquarters of the National Oil Corporation in Tripoli on December 14.
During the meeting, Eng. Sanalla briefed Chancellor Williams on the conditions and challenges facing the Libyan oil sector, most notably the accumulation of debts and the scarcity of financial resources needed by the National Oil Corporation to run the sector’s business, fulfill contractual obligations towards partners, and carry out maintenance work for the dilapidated infrastructure.
In this regard, Chancellor Williams expressed her admiration for the heroic and patriotic work carried out by the National Oil Corporation and its companies in order to maintain and sustain production rates to secure the income and financial resources of the Libyan state despite all the difficulties faced by the oil sector and stressed the need to preserve the integrity and independence of the National Oil Corporation. Oil represents about 97% of the Libyan state’s revenues, and as such, Williams stated this institution must be supported to preserve the unity and independence of Libya.
