NNPC Receives Generating License for Power Project

Tuesday, November 29, 2022

Last week Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu presented a 50-MW generating license to Mallam, Kyari, the NNPC group managing director for the Maiduguri Emergency Power Project (MEPP). The project is meant to generate electricity for the Borno state capital and its surroundings.

The existing power lines have been repeatedly attacked by insurgents over the past year, making the restoration project necessary. Aliyu said though efforts are on course to restore the 330 lines destroyed by the insurgents, other arrangements such as the 33 double circuit lines from Damaturu to Maiduguri presently being procured by the Ministry of Power would in no doubt provide various options of electricity supply to the state.

Aliyu, after a June attack, explained at the time that the government was forced to design alternative but less efficient ways to supply electricity to the affected areas.
