Wednesday, June 16, 2010

Unconventional gas production does not bother Nigeria’sNLNG. The company said that Nigeria’s LNG industry would not be under any threat from the discovery of unconventional gas in Europe and Australia or any other part of the world.

According to an article in Business Day some oil and gas industry operators have expressed fears that the increased focus on the development of shale gas will adversely affect NLNG, as it has a unit cost of $3 as against the Nigerian LNG which has a unit cost price of $11.

If unconventional gas affects Nigeria LNG it will not be felt immediately. The company said that its current contracts for LNG have a life span of about 22 years and until the tenure of the contracts expire the issue of the project coming under threat will not arise.
