Following the third steering committee meeting of TSGP, Emmanuel Odusina, Minister of State for Energy (Gas), said that the country would reserve a substantial chunk of its natural gas resources, about 15 Tcf, to feed the planned Trans Sahara Gas Pipeline Project.
The commitment comes as a guarantee to stakeholders that gas will be available for at least the first 25-year duration of the planned pipeline.
Odusina also reiterated an earlier government mandate that international oil companies commit a certain percentage of their gas production to the domestic market. "We have engaged them and they have agreed on what quota to make available. We have determined the tariff to apply in charging the defaulting companies and they are going to respond," Odusina said.
