The first phase of Nigeria’s Gwagwalada Independent Power Plant (IPP) project got underway with a groundbreaking ceremony held under the patronage of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Gwagwalada IPP is among the Nigerian National Petroleum Corp flagship power projects along the AKK corridor. This is part of the 3,600 MW planned cumulative power capacity which includes Kaduna IPP (900 MW) and Kano IPP (1,350 MW).
“The Gwagwalada 350 MW (Phase 1) project is part of an incremental 3,600 MW cumulative power project that is based on market-driven designs along the Abuja, Kaduna and Kano (AKK) gas pipeline corridors, which will further underpin the project’s economic viability while generating multiple foreign direct investments for the nation,” Tinubu stated at the ceremony.
The project will be delivered in collaboration with General Electric (GE) as the Original Equipment Manufacturer and China Machinery and Engineering Corporation (CMEC) as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction Contractor.
