Libya’s NOC and GECOL to Cooperate on Renewable and Clean Energy Strategies

Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) and the General Electricity Company (GECOL) are studying ways of integration and cooperation between to implement the use of renewable and clean energies to generate electric power.

Mustafa Sanalla, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the NOC, met with Wiam Abdali, Chairman of the Board of Directors of GECOL, along with Abul-Qasim Shanqir, a member of the Board of Directors for exploration and production at NOC to discuss many issues of common interest.

The two sides discussed ways to implement the use of renewable and clean energies to generate electric power, and NOC offered to help GECOL and coordinate with its partners in this field and work together in order to reach this goal and reduce carbon emissions.

The discussions also included the provision of gas supplies to the local market. Sanalla stated that one of the priorities of NOC is to provide gas to the local market, especially to the stations of GECOL, and that the quantities currently available meet the needs of the company. Sanalla said NOC is working on development plans for some gas fields (Al-Hamada and Al-Atshan) and will finish them in the coming months once the budget required for their development is resolved.

The two executives also discussed the future plans of the General Electricity Company, the expansion programs in the short and long term, and their future needs
