Libya’s National Oil Foundation Helps in Rescue Efforts Following Deadly Storm

Friday, September 15, 2023

Member oil companies of Libya’s National Petroleum Foundation have joined in the rescue effort following “Daniel”, the devastating storm that hit the coast of Libya earlier this week. Reports from the Libyan Red Crescent have more than 11,000 people dead and over 10,000 missing as a result of dams breaching due to the heavy rain.

Farhat bin Qadara, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Foundation, requested executives from the oil companies to quickly form and dispatch technical teams specialized in the fields of electricity, communications, and plumbing, with the capability to repair and operate heavy machinery, to the disaster areas most impacted by Daniel. Numerous caravans have been sent to Derna and Souzat in the eastern region of the North African country over the past few days as a result.

Companies assisting in the disaster relief effort include Sirte Oil Company, Repsol, and Al-Baraka, among others. The companies have sent medical convoys to both hospitals and neighborhoods to assist in saving lives as well as providing much needed equipment and manpower.
