Libya’s South Refinery project was launched on, October 3, 2021, at the headquarters of the National Oil Corporation (NOC) in Tripoli. The aim of this project valued at approximately $600 million is to achieve spatial development, as it will contribute effectively to solving the crisis of the fuel shortage in the country’s southern regions, while also creating jobs in the region.
The refinery will be built near a major oil field in the region, Al Charara, and will produce cooking gas, jet fuel and other products including 1.4 million liters a day of petrol and 1.1 million liters a day of diesel, according to NOC. The project will fall under the purview of NOC subsidiary Zallaf and is expected to take three years to complete.
His Excellency the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Mr. Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, opened the ceremony with a speech in which he explained the importance of the project, as it will contribute to stabilizing the southern region and advance its economy.
