JICA to Loan Nigeria $200 Million for Electricity Rehab

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will be loaning the Federal Government of Nigeria about $200 million to support the construction of 203 km of high voltage transmission lines and six high voltage substations.

The electricity projects will be erected in Ogun and Lagos States. Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu said in a statement that the consultancy services for line route studies, environmental and social impact assessment for the proposed JICA transmission projects in Lagos and Ogun had been completed.

The transmission rehabilitation and expansion program will be carried out by the Transmission Company of Nigeria and will cover about 200 communities and support the rapidly expanding industries in Lagos and Ogun States.

The two parties expect to complete the loan agreement for the project in March 2022.
