Ethiopia is seeing some oil and gas interest from the UK-based White Nile. The company, recently in the news for its dealings in Sudan, has signed a two-year agreement to carry out a joint study with Ethiopia over the Southern Rift basins. In the agreement White Nile will conduct geological and geophysical studies in conjunction with Ethiopia’s Petroleum Operations Department.
White Nile Chairman Phil Edmonds said, “We will work closely with the Ministry of Mines to evaluate the area, which both parties believe has strong potential for future development, especially due to it being adjacent to the highly prospective Gambela region.” The agreement also allows the company to enter exclusive negotiations with the Ministry of Mines for an exploration and production sharing agreement.
