US Assistant Secretary for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt met with Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla, while attending COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh where the pair discussed cooperation in the energy sphere.
Pyatt expressed his country’s support for Egypt becoming a regional energy hub and stated the US is keen to assist the North African country in its efforts to develop carbon capture and storage (CCS) and natural gas projects.
The pair also discussed the activities of US oil and gas companies working in Egypt. El Molla highlighted the promising opportunities for such companies to increase their investments, especially in the exploration and production field.
The minister also expressed his appreciation for US support for the establishment of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum in 2018 which enables the optimum utilization of natural gas discovered in the region.
