The Vice Chairman for Energy Sustainability at the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), Dr. Samir Al-Quraish, recently stated that in line with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy to expand the use of new and renewable energy in its energy mix, offshore wind energy is now being looked at.
A discussion took place during a recent meeting of industry executives from EGAS, the Ministry, Sea Split and other stakeholders. The talks were raised in light of the global shift towards clean energy to reduce carbon emissions and minimize the negative effects of climate change and Egypt’s push to be a leader in both the green and blue economies.
Participants noted that in order to optimize efficiency in petroleum operations, wind energy could be used in its oil and gas operations in the Gulf of Suez to generate electricity.
