Drilling to Recommence in Equatorial Guinea’s Offshore Block G

Thursday, July 4, 2024

UK firm Trident Energy‘s operating subsidiary in Equatorial Guinea is set to recommence its drilling campaign in Block G in the offshore Ceiba and Okume complex following the arrival of the Noble Venturer drill ship at Luba port.

The company says the drilling campaign will comprise two infill wells located in water depths of 250 meters and 740 meters, before moving to the Kosmos Energy-operated Block S for work on an exploration well.

The contract was awarded to Noble Corporation for its drillship Noble Venturer on behalf of Trident Energy and joint venture partners, Panoro Energy, Kosmos Energy, and Gepetrol in April 2024.

François Raux, COO at Trident Energy ML commented: “The arrival of the drill ship is a milestone that demonstrates our ability to restart the drilling program very quickly. It affirms our commitment to unlock the potential of these fields and unleash further growth in Equatorial Guinea – safely, efficiently and responsibly. This will be a busy and exciting period for the company and look forward to getting underway.”

In a separate announcement, John Hamilton, CEO of Panoro, commented: “We are pleased to receive the high specification Noble Venturer drill ship in country and look forward to recommencing the infill drilling campaign at Block G which will be followed by the high impact Akeng Deep infrastructure led exploration well which, if successful, can open a new play fairway with a potentially very positive read across to the adjacent Block EG-01 which Panoro operates.”
