At Least 3 Dead, Others Missing After Nigeria Oil Vessel Explosion

Wednesday, February 9, 2022

According to widespread local media reports out of Nigeria, at least three people died when the oil floating production, storage and offloading vessel, FPSO Trinity Spirit, exploded last week. Four crew members are still missing, according to the operator.

The vessel had 10 crew on board when it exploded last Wednesday, according to Shebah Exploration & Production Company Ltd (SEPCOL). The company did say that thankfully three people had been found alive last week.

“Our priority remains focused towards establishing the whereabouts, safety, and security of the four crew members still missing,” the company said.

The Trinity Spirit FPSO vessel was not producing oil at the time of the blast, after the consortium running the oilfield, including SEPCOL, lost its production license in 2019.
