Angola’s new, but much beleaguered LNG facility has had to shut down production due to an unspecified technical problem according to a spokesman for the plant. He did not specify when the facility would restart production.
This recent shut down is just one of many problems the plant has experienced since its inception. Not only was the facility, operated by Chevron, delayed several times in starting up but since then has seen a number of setbacks including; a compressor leak, a rig capsize, electrical fires, and pipeline leaks.
“The plant has experienced technical issues which have caused an unplanned interruption to production,” the spokesman said in a Reuters report. “No explosion, fire or injuries were caused as a result of this unplanned interruption, and the plant was safely shutdown in a controlled manner.”
An investigation into the cause of the technical problems is under way and a restart date will only be known following the investigation findings.
