Friday, August 13, 2021

On August 12, representatives from Angola’s Minister of Energy and Water and Voith, held a meeting via a digital platform, with the aim of developing a project that consists of producing clean energy from hydrogen and also producing fertilizers. This project will be the first of its kind to be developed in Africa.

Among the participants were Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, the Minister of Natural Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino de Azevedo, the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Francisco de Assis, a representative of VOITH and also a representative of the German Embassy in Angola.

Voith and the Government of Angola will in due course sign a Memorandum of Understanding, which will define the contributions of each of the parties and the road map for the implementation of the project, which may last for three years.

A Task Force was created, comprising representatives of the three ministries involved, with participation at the level of Secretaries of State, to monitor the project.

The Angolan side welcomed the Voith proposal, as the production of fertilizers can boost the development of agriculture in the country, and the Minister of Petroleum gladly accepted the project, taking into account Sonangol’s involvement in the production of renewable energies.

Regarding MINEA, the interest is the same, as it could produce around 20 MW and with the possibility of replicating the project in various regions of the country where there is a need for energy and fertilizers. It should also be noted that the project will have the support of the German Government.
